In 2018, the age of artificial intelligence (AI) is certainly upon us! Algorithms are now widely used to screen applications and streamline the recruitment process to best match a defined criterion. The time-consuming process of finding suitable candidates amongst 100s of applications, a lot of which are not suitable, has finally been solved by algorithms!

Something to consider… Will people or algorithms be screening your next application?  Be prepared for both!

By presenting your skills and experience in the right way, you will help yourself attract attention from hiring managers AND from algorithms. Here are our top tips to make sure your resume makes it to the AI short list.

- Algorithms work by picking up keys words, so ensure you clearly identify your professional skills or responsibilities (e.g. drafting correspondence, court fillings; legal research, diary management etc.).

- You also want to make your soft skills known. This should include specific technical capabilities (e.g. Microsoft Excel, LEAP, MYOB) and include keywords such as ‘professional’, ‘attention to detail’, ‘organisation’, ‘time management’ to clearly define your strengths.

- Artificial intelligence algorithms will also screen from professional profiles such as LinkedIn, so make sure that you keep your profile up-to-date, utilise key words throughout and focus your experience on the job/sector you want in your next position.

Whilst technology offers significant advancements to the recruitment process, it is and will always be, a face to face contact business.
