With 2019 fast approaching, it is a time to reflect on the year that has been and look forward, with anticipation, to what is to come as we ring in the New Year.
Often, this is the time when we start to re-evaluate and set new goals for what we would like to achieve. These can be short or long term goals and often these will include the prospects of an exciting new career opportunity.
To ensure you are putting your best foot forward and reaching your full potential in securing the role of your dreams, here are a few tips to assist you in the process:
Resume – make sure your CV is up to date and looking professional. Include your current and past positions with tenure of employment dates (Month and Year) and a break-down of your duties in a clear, bullet point format.
Social Media and On-Line Platforms – both of these areas should also have that element of professionalism to them. Make sure Instagram and Facebook photos and uploads are something you would be happy for prospective employers to see! Update LinkedIn with all your experience.
Commence Job Hunting – look at the avenues you are willing to consider in your job search and start applying!!!! Look at advertisements through SEEK, building a strong relationship with a Recruiter you trust, use your network and contacts to see what is out there and take that step!
Commence Interviewing – whether this be attending an interview with your chosen Recruiter or a prospective employer, make sure you are prepared for the meeting. Do your research and always present yourself professionally – first impressions last!
Manage Expectations – be sure to look at all your available options. The best thing to do is to have a couple of roles on the table to consider and understand that not every role is going to be “the one”. This is the key to job hunting – remember it is as much about the company/firm interviewing you as well as you interviewing them! Trust your gut instinct and make informed decisions.
Look at your Offer(s) – while it is extremely flattering and exciting to be provided with an exciting new challenge, you have to ensure that the role is putting a tick in all the right boxes for you. Don’t just jump at the first opportunity that comes your way. Make sure you look at it objectively and then make your decision!
Offer & Acceptance – CONGRATS!!!! Now you have made the choice and you are heading on into your new opportunity! The next step is to exit as gracefully as possible. Thank your previous employer for their time and support and always leave on a positive note – more about resigning in our next blog!!!
