BE Construction Associate/SA (Melb)

Associate / Senior Associate | Construction & Infrastructure (End-to-End)

  • Hybrid Flexibility: 2 Days WFH

  • Work-Life Balance: 5.5 Billable Hour Target

  • Scope: True mix of Front-End Advisory & Back-End Litigation

  • Support: 16 Weeks Paid Parental Leave + Discretionary Bonus

About the Role

Are you a Construction Lawyer feeling pigeonholed into a single department? This is a rare opportunity to break the "silo" mold. A premier Melbourne-based Construction & Infrastructure team is looking for an ambitious Associate or Senior Associate (3–7 years PQE) to step into a genuine "end-to-end" role.

Working directly with two highly regarded Partners, you will enjoy a 1:1 mentorship model that is increasingly rare in the Melbourne market. You’ll be at the coalface of the industry, structuring a renewable energy deal one day and navigating a complex Supreme Court dispute the next.

Key Responsibilities

  • Front-End Advisory: Draft and negotiate high-stakes project documents, including D&C, EPC, O&M, and consultancy agreements.

  • Dispute Resolution: Lead construction-related litigation, including Supreme Court proceedings, arbitrations, and mediations.

  • Security of Payment: Provide strategic advice and lead applications/responses under the Security of Payment Act.

  • Project Delivery: Offer "mid-stream" advice to clients to mitigate risk and resolve claims before they escalate.

  • Client Management: Act as the primary point of contact for head contractors, developers, and specialized subcontractors.

About You

We are looking for a technically sharp, commercially-minded practitioner who thrives on variety.

  • Experience: 3–7 years PQE in Construction Law. While a balanced "front and back" background is ideal, specialists in construction litigation looking to diversify into front-end work are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Technical Skills: A proven track record in construction litigation is a must. You should have a strong understanding of standard form contracts (AS, FIDIC, ABIC).

  • Admission: Must be admitted to practice in Australia or New Zealand.

  • Mindset: A collaborative team player who values technical excellence but wants to escape the "big firm" bureaucracy.

Why This Firm?

This firm offers a "boutique feel with top-tier quality." They have successfully stripped away the unnecessary overheads of traditional large-firm models to focus on what matters: sustainable performance.

  • Sustainable Hours: A market-leading budget of just 5.5 billable hours per day, allowing you to actually leave the office at 5:00 pm.

  • True Flexibility: A genuine hybrid model with 2 days WFH per week.

  • Professional Growth: 1:1 partner support designed to fast-track your progression to Senior Associate or Special Counsel.

  • Leading Benefits: A competitive mid-tier salary, discretionary bonus, and a generous 16-week paid parental leave policy.
