About the Role
We are currently partnering with a highly progressive, premium corporate and commercial boutique firm in the Sydney CBD to secure an ambitious Commercial IT / TMT Associate. This position offers a rare alternative to the rigid structures and intense billable pressures of traditional top-tier firms, without compromising on the caliber of the work.
Reporting directly to the firm’s Principal—a highly regarded market leader with over 20 years of experience across private practice and major multinational media and telecommunications corporates—you will step into a sophisticated, fast-paced practice. This role sits at the intersection of traditional commercial transactions and cutting-edge digital disruption, giving you an elite platform to handle premium front-end technology, media, and IP mandates.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Technology Contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate a comprehensive suite of commercial IT agreements, including Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), cloud computing arrangements, system integrations, and software licensing.
IP Commercialisation & Data: Advise clients on the commercialisation, protection, and licensing of intangible assets, big data platforms, and complex intellectual property structures.
Digital & Regulatory Advisory: Provide strategic legal and regulatory advice on privacy compliance, data protection, e-commerce, and emerging technologies (including fintech, blockchain, and distributed ledger technology).
Media & Telecoms Contracts: Assist with high-value commercial agreements spanning traditional and new media assets, content licensing, and distribution deals.
Client Engagement: Act as a key consultative advisor to a diverse client base, ranging from ambitious digital start-ups and SMEs to major private, public, and listed media corporations.
About You
Experience: 2–4+ years of Post-Admission Experience (PQE) specializing in TMT, IT procurement, commercial technology, or intellectual property law within a reputable private practice or corporate in-house setting.
Technical Excellence: Strong foundational knowledge of technology contract frameworks, commercial licensing, and Australian privacy regimes, backed by precise and agile drafting capabilities.
Commercial Mindset: Ability to balance legal risk with business necessity, delivering practical, solutions-driven advice that integrates seamlessly into a client's commercial operations.
Attributes: A proactive, self-motivated professional who enjoys high levels of file autonomy, close client interaction, and working in a modern, tech-focused legal team.
