About the Role I am currently partnering with a market-leading commercial firm in Canberra to find a sharp, commercially minded Commercial Lawyer (3+ PQE) ready to step into a position offering genuine autonomy, file ownership, and rapid career progression.

Working closely with senior partners on complex, high-value matters—including M&A transactions—this role is a fantastic opportunity to move away from rigid top-tier silos. You will have direct exposure to a diverse corporate client base, giving you the platform to build your own practice strengths and professional brand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transaction Management: Run a varied range of corporate and commercial matters with increasing autonomy, advising clients on transactions, structuring, and compliance.

  • Contract Drafting & Negotiation: Draft and negotiate sophisticated commercial agreements, including Sale of Business Agreements, Share Purchase Deeds, and shareholder/unitholder agreements.

  • M&A Support: Assist Partners on high-stakes mergers and acquisitions, from due diligence through to execution.

  • Client Engagement: Act as a key point of contact to build, maintain, and deepen strong client relationships.

  • Team Leadership: Provide mentorship and daily technical support to junior team members.

  • Firm Growth: Actively participate in local networking and business development to contribute to the team's ongoing expansion.

About You

  • Experience: 3+ years of Post-Admission Experience (PQE) in commercial law within an Australian private practice environment.

  • Technical Breadth: Strong exposure to business/asset/share sales, corporate governance, franchise agreements, commercial contracts, and Corporations Act compliance. Experience advising both for-profit and NFP clients is highly regarded.

  • Mindset: Commercially focused with a practical, solutions-driven approach to legal issues.

  • Attributes: A confident communicator with exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and financial accountability.
