Elite Melbourne Boutique | Sophisticated 70/30 Employer/Employee Split
6 Billable Hour Target | True 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Culture
Hybrid Flexibility (2-3 Days WFH) + Leading Mentorship
Are you an Employment Lawyer feeling like a cog in a giant machine? Or perhaps you’re looking for a firm where "mentorship" isn't just a buzzword, but a daily reality.
We are representing a highly regarded, specialist Melbourne practice seeking an Associate or Senior Associate to join their thriving Employment Law team. This isn’t just another fee-earning role; it is a strategic hire designed for someone who wants to run high-stakes litigation, mentor junior talent, and follow a transparent, non-bureaucratic pathway to Partnership.
You will work alongside a Principal renowned across the Victorian market for their commitment to developing lawyers. This is a "hands-on" mentorship environment where you won't just be handed a file—you’ll be coached on the strategy behind it.
The practice offers a sophisticated mix of matters:
70% Employer / 30% Employee representation.
Litigation: Lead disputes in the FWC, Federal Circuit Court, and Federal Court (Unfair Dismissals, General Protections, Restraints).
Advisory: High-level strategy on redundancies, performance management, and complex workplace investigations.
This firm successfully competes with the "Big City" players but has intentionally rejected the "Big City" grind.
Sustainable Performance: A reasonable 6-hour billable target and standard 8:30 am – 5:00 pm hours.
True Hybridity: Work from home 2–3 days per week.
Lucrative Bonuses: Merit-based KPI bonuses plus a percentage-based commission for any new business you bring in.
Culture & Sport: Join a firm that actually hangs out together. Whether it’s the Running Club, Tennis Club, or their championship-level Netball team, the social culture is thriving.
Family First: 16 weeks of paid parental leave (currently under review to increase further).
We are looking for a proactive, "self-starter" lawyer who enjoys the cut-and-thrust of litigation but has the commercial temperance required for advisory work.
Experience: 3–7 years PQE within a private practice employment law team.
Litigation Heavy: Proven experience managing contested proceedings and a deep mastery of the Fair Work Act 2009.
Leadership: A genuine interest in 1:1 mentorship—you will be the "go-to" for the junior solicitor in the team.
Credentials: Admitted to practice in Victoria with a current practicing certificate.
If you are looking for a firm that values your output over your "desk time" and offers a genuine run at Partnership, we want to hear from you.
Note: All applications and enquiries are treated with the strictest confidence.
