A well-regarded national firm is expanding its Workplace Relations and Education Law practice and is seeking a Senior Associate to join its collaborative and purpose-driven team in Melbourne. This is a rare opportunity to work on high-impact matters in the independent education sector, with scope across employment law, student wellbeing, and regulatory compliance.
You’ll join a team acting as trusted advisors to leading education providers, assisting with complex and sensitive issues involving school governance, duty of care, employment disputes, and workplace safety. The work is varied, meaningful, and will provide real opportunity for career progression and profile-building.
Advise on all facets of employment law, including contracts, performance, termination, workplace investigations, and IR issues
Manage matters involving discrimination, bullying, sexual harassment, and WHS compliance
Support schools and educational bodies on student wellbeing, discipline, and mandatory reporting obligations
Represent clients in forums including the FWC, VEOHRC, and relevant state/federal courts
Draft tailored contracts, enterprise agreements, internal policies, and pleadings
Lead or contribute to training sessions, seminars, and thought leadership pieces for clients
Mentor junior lawyers and contribute to internal L&D programs
Build long-term client relationships and support business development initiatives
4–8 years’ post-admission experience in employment, workplace relations or education law
Strong commercial mindset and ability to manage complex advisory and litigation matters
Excellent technical drafting and communication skills
Experience in education, school governance, or regulatory reporting is advantageous but not essential
A genuine interest in student safety, ethical practice, and community-focused legal work
Comfortable engaging directly with clients and managing matters independently or in teams
