Special Counsel – Workplace Relations & Safety | Sydney or Melbourne

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Workplace Relations & Safety Special Counsel to join a high-performing national team. This role offers the chance to work with leading clients across all aspects of employment law, industrial relations, and workplace safety, while mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to the growth of the practice.

The Role
You will take a leadership role across a wide range of matters, including:

  • Advising on employment contracts, workplace policies, grievances, terminations, and disputes

  • Providing strategic guidance on industrial relations and safety compliance issues

  • Managing litigation, drafting court documents, engaging barristers, and appearing in tribunals and courts

  • Preparing detailed written advices and conducting complex legal research

  • Building and maintaining client relationships, including managing key accounts

  • Leading business development activities and contributing to practice growth

  • Delegating, supervising, and mentoring junior lawyers and clerks to support their professional development

About You
The successful candidate will have:

  • 8+ years PQE in employment law, workplace relations, or safety law

  • A current practising certificate in the relevant jurisdiction

  • Strong legal drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex disputes and develop client-focused solutions

  • A collaborative and proactive approach to leadership, mentoring, and client service

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to advise and influence at all levels

  • Organisational skills to manage competing deadlines while delivering quality outcomes
