Employment Senior Associate – Melbourne

A leading national law firm is seeking an experienced Employment Senior Associate to join its well-regarded employment and workplace relations practice in Melbourne.

The Role

Working closely with clients, insurers, and external counsel, you will play a key role in managing and resolving a broad range of employment and workplace matters. Responsibilities include:

  • Representing clients in conciliations, mediations, arbitrations and court proceedings

  • Managing the defence and resolution of employment-related claims, including drafting defences, responses and settlement agreements

  • Providing strategic, commercially focused advice on employment law compliance, workplace policies and risk mitigation

  • Conducting investigations and detailed fact-finding in relation to employment disputes

  • Staying across legislative developments and relevant case law

  • Delivering high-quality legal research and clear, practical advice

  • Managing competing priorities and a substantial workload effectively

  • Building strong client relationships through a deep understanding of client operations and objectives

  • Mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to team development

  • Meeting ongoing professional development and CLE requirements


About You

You are a confident, driven employment lawyer who enjoys working in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. You will bring:

  • 5+ years’ post-qualification experience in employment and workplace relations matters

  • Strong technical expertise and attention to detail

  • A practical, client-focused approach to problem solving

  • Clear, plain-language communication skills

  • Excellent investigative, analytical and negotiation skills

  • The ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously

  • Strong teamwork skills and the confidence to work with stakeholders at all levels

  • A proactive mindset and the ability to perform well under pressure
