Employment/Safety Senior Associate (Syd/Melb)

Senior Associate | Employment & Workplace Health & Safety (WHS)

Location: Sydney or Melbourne

Practice Area: Employment, Labour & Safety

Experience: 5+ Years PQE

The Opportunity

I am currently partnering with a market-leading, global heavyweight to identify high-calibre Senior Associates for their premier Employment & WHS practice. This isn't just another "safety role"—this is an invitation to join the largest and most sophisticated WHS team in Australia.

This firm is the only dedicated labour and employment provider in the country that operates on a truly global platform. They are consistently ranked Tier 1 across Chambers, The Legal 500, and Doyle’s Guide, representing high-profile global brands on their most sensitive, high-stakes mandates.

The Work: High-Impact & High-Stakes

As a Senior Associate, you will move beyond mere compliance, acting as a strategic partner to clients across the full lifecycle of workplace risk:

  • 24/7 Incident Response: Be at the forefront of "boots on the ground" crisis management, handling workplace fatalities and catastrophic events.

  • WHS Litigation: Defending employers in complex criminal prosecutions and industrial disputes.

  • Proactive Governance: Leading internal audits and advising on front-end safety risk and compliance.

  • Modern Strategic Counsel: Guiding boards on evolving legal duties, including psychosocial risks, mental health, and workplace culture.

Who You Are

We are looking for a practitioner who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and possesses:

  • Expertise: 5+ years PQE with a dedicated focus on Employment and/or WHS law.

  • Pedigree: Excellent academic credentials and experience within a reputable mid-tier or top-tier firm.

  • Leadership: A natural inclination to mentor junior lawyers and take the lead on complex matters.

  • Commerciality: The ability to "go deep" into a client’s business to understand their specific risk profile and commercial imperatives.

Why This Firm?

"They invest in their people as much as their clients. This role offers substantive client contact and a seat at the table for matter strategy, rather than just being a cog in a machine."

  • Global Reach: Leverage an international platform while maintaining a specialized, boutique feel in the local market.

  • Mentorship: Work side-by-side with Partners who are household names in the WHS and Employment space.

  • Culture: A highly innovative and collaborative environment with a genuine, industry-leading commitment to inclusion and diversity.

  • Growth: Comprehensive CPD initiatives and executive coaching designed to bridge the gap between Senior Associate and the Partnership.
