A rare opportunity has arisen for a litigation lawyer with a passion for infrastructure and public law to join a highly regarded Environment & Sustainable Development (ESD) team in Melbourne. This is your chance to work on significant land acquisition and compensation matters tied to Victoria’s major infrastructure pipeline.
About the Role
You’ll join a high-performing, supportive ESD practice known for its work on complex, high-stakes disputes involving land acquisition, infrastructure delivery, and environmental regulation. Acting primarily for public sector clients, you’ll gain exposure to litigation in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) and the Supreme Court of Victoria, as well as advisory work on land access and management.
What You’ll Be Doing
Managing litigation files from start to finish, including drafting court documents and preparing briefs for counsel
Advising government clients on contested land acquisition claims and broader property and planning matters
Supporting the delivery of major transport and infrastructure projects through regulatory advice
Working closely with respected senior lawyers in a team that values mentorship and collaboration
Building strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and counsel
About You
2+ years post-admission experience, ideally in litigation or administrative/public law
Experience in land acquisition, compensation or planning matters (preferred but not essential)
Strong drafting skills, high attention to detail and excellent legal reasoning
A genuine interest in public interest work, infrastructure, and property law
A collaborative, professional and proactive mindset with a passion for delivering great client outcomes
