A leading Government Law practice is expanding and seeking a senior lawyer to join a highly regarded team of information law specialists. The team advises Commonwealth agencies across a wide range of sectors on complex and sensitive matters, with deep expertise in privacy, secrecy, FOI, data sharing and governance, AI, and information access laws.
This role is suited to a Senior Associate-level lawyer with strong experience in government information and privacy law. Based in Canberra, you will work closely with senior practitioners advising Australian Government clients on compliance with privacy and secrecy obligations.
Your work will include:
Advising on the collection, use and disclosure of personal information
Conducting Privacy Threshold Assessments (PTAs) and Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs)
Advising on AI, data sharing and information governance frameworks
Managing data breaches and privacy complaints
Supporting clients through OAIC investigations
Interpreting and applying secrecy and information-handling provisions
You will also play a mentoring role, supporting junior lawyers and contributing to the continued growth of the practice.
You will be operating at Senior Associate level with demonstrated experience in information law, ideally within a government or regulatory context. This opportunity will suit a high-performing lawyer seeking exposure to complex, high-profile government matters and long-term career development.

Experience conducting PIAs and advising on secrecy provisions (preferred)

You must hold, or be eligible to obtain, a minimum baseline security clearance.
