Associate / Senior Associate – Tax


About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for an Associate or Senior Associate to join a national commercial law firm's tax practice. Based in Brisbane, this newly created position offers exposure to both advisory (front-end) and tax controversy (back-end) matters, providing a well-rounded platform to develop into a trusted tax adviser.

You will work on a broad range of complex transactions, projects and disputes for leading corporate and government clients, collaborating closely with experienced practitioners while taking increasing responsibility for client matters.


Key Responsibilities

Front-end advisory:

  • Preparing advice on income tax, capital gains tax (CGT), GST and Australian duties.
  • Drafting applications for private rulings.
  • Conducting legal research and delivering practical, commercially focused tax advice.

Tax controversy:

  • Assisting with ATO reviews and audits.
  • Preparing notices of objection.
  • Working on matters before the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART).
  • Supporting Federal Court tax litigation and appeals.


About You

You are a technically strong tax lawyer with approximately 2–5 years' post-admission experience gained in a specialist tax practice.

You will bring:

  • Experience advising on Australian tax matters, including tax advisory and tax controversy work.
  • Strong analytical, legal research and drafting skills.
  • The ability to identify key tax issues and provide tailored, practical advice.
  • Experience using legal research platforms and document management systems.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach and commitment to delivering outstanding client outcomes.

Candidates with an accounting or finance background are welcome to apply; however, admission and experience practising as a lawyer are essential.
