Tax Lawyer (Syd)

Tax Lawyer / Associate | High-End Private Clients

  • Location: Sydney CBD (Hybrid Flexibility)

  • Experience: 3 – 4 years PQE

  • Team: High-performing Private Clients Practice

  • Work-Life Balance: 1–2 days WFH & 20 weeks Paid Parental Leave

The Opportunity

Are you a commercially-minded Tax Lawyer looking to step away from the "big firm" grind without sacrificing the quality of your work?

A premier Sydney-based firm, recognized as a 2024 Employer of Choice, is seeking an ambitious Tax Lawyer or Associate to join their elite Private Clients team. This isn’t a role where you’ll be hidden in the back room; you will work directly with industry-leading partners on a broad range of high-stakes matters, enjoying genuine client engagement from day one.

The Role

Reporting to three highly regarded Partners, you will handle a diverse mix of state and federal tax matters. Your day-to-day will involve:

  • Providing high-level tax advisory and managing tax disputes.

  • Advising on complex asset structuring, business succession, and trusts.

  • Working across SMSFs and estate planning for high-net-worth individuals.

  • Collaborating directly with Partners who prioritize mentorship and structured career progression.

About You

We are looking for a high-performer who is academically strong and technically curious. To be successful, you will need:

  • 3–4 years PQE gained within a reputable Law Firm or a Big 4 Accounting environment.

  • Proven experience in State and Federal tax; exposure to tax disputes is a plus.

  • A strong interest (or prior experience) in trusts, estate planning, and superannuation.

  • Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills.

  • A commitment to ongoing learning (e.g., undertaking or interested in a Masters of Tax).

Why Join This Team?

This firm is defined by a "culture first" mentality—blending a high-performance environment with a warm, approachable atmosphere.

  • Mentorship: Direct access to Partners who are committed to your professional development.

  • Flexibility: Genuine hybrid work options (1–2 days WFH) and a focus on work-life balance.

  • Market-Leading Benefits: Includes a 20-week paid parental leave policy for all eligible caregivers and a discretionary incentive bonus program.

  • Growth: Clear pathways for career advancement within a firm that invests in its people through structured training and secondment opportunities.
